Found in search. Cited in an AI answer? What SEO, GEO and AEO really change

A grounded workflow: make pages accessible and useful, answer real questions, then measure search and AI citations separately.

A website page connecting traditional search and a cited AI answer

A page can be accessible in search yet fail to answer a reader's question clearly enough to earn a visit or citation. That gap has given us three convenient labels: SEO for search accessibility and usefulness, AEO for making a page a clear source of a specific answer, and GEO for how sources appear in generated answers. AEO and GEO are planning terms, not separate buttons that guarantee traffic.

Google's guidance for AI features says existing SEO best practices still apply and that there are no special requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode. Start with evidence, not a promise of instant AI visibility.

First, can the page be read?

Check an important URL: HTTP response, canonical target, title, description, H1, declared language, internal links and structured data. A blocked product page matters more than a minor wording issue on a low-impact page.

Yasnora SEO is a beta, bounded audit of public HTTPS pages. It reports supported observations with affected URLs, including status, metadata, headings, language, canonical, JSON-LD, sitemap and internal links. It is not a complete keyword, backlink or Core Web Vitals suite. Free includes one introductory audit for one site; repeat checks depend on plan. The Help overview and audit model explain the limits.

Next, does the page answer a real question?

Take a customer question such as “Which documents do I need to get started?” Put the accurate answer, conditions, exceptions and next step on the relevant page. Keep it current and attributable to the product owner. Avoid producing many near-identical FAQ pages just to capture wording variants. Google's people-first content guidance is a better compass than keyword repetition.

This is the useful part of AEO: a person and a system can see what the page answers. Supported structured data can help describe content, but it cannot substitute for the answer or guarantee a feature placement.

Finally, measure the right thing

Keep three separate lines in the report:

  1. Page readiness: audit evidence, accessibility and verified fixes.
  2. Search behavior: actual impressions, queries and clicks from an authorized property, with import dates.
  3. AI-answer presence: observed citations from a separate, reproducible source, never a score inferred from a technical audit.

For example, Bing Webmaster Tools describes AI citation reporting as distinct source data. Citation counts do not by themselves prove ranking, traffic or revenue. Yasnora can inspect some source-HTML discoverability signals, but measured AI mentions are not currently an available Yasnora feature. We should not turn readiness into an invented “AI visibility” score.

Google Search Console and Yandex Webmaster read-only paths require authorization for the specific property and a successful import. A visible connection option is not evidence that metrics exist. Search engines decide indexing and ranking.

How to start

Choose one important page and one real customer question. Run an eligible Yasnora SEO audit, save the affected URL and evidence, fix the underlying issue on your site, and recheck within your plan. Have the product owner review the answer. Then inspect first-party search data and, if you have a suitable external source, AI citations as separate observations. Our earlier SEO fix-priority guide helps select the first task.

FAQ

Are SEO, GEO and AEO three Yasnora products? No. Yasnora SEO currently offers a bounded technical audit and related workflows. GEO and AEO describe content and measurement goals here, not released standalone modules.

Will Yasnora show where AI cites my site? Do not treat that as a current measured capability. It needs an authorized source and reproducible method.

Does fixing a title guarantee an AI citation? No. An improvement can make a page clearer without guaranteeing indexing, a citation, ranking or sales.

Do I need an account? Yes for an SEO project. Free includes one introductory audit; further checks and connected data depend on plan, rights and setup.
