Only part of the shipment arrived: spot the shortage before customers do

Connect partial receipts, promised dates and sellable stock to review shortage risk by SKU.

A shipment marked “delivered” can conceal a critical detail: 60 of 100 cartons arrived. Looking only at the trip status can hide the gap until orders fail. The team needs an event timeline at shipment and item level.

This workflow requires an enabled logistics module and suitable data sources; check availability in your account.

A practical sequence

  1. Record the original order, each shipment leg, promised dates and observed events. A partial receipt is a new event, not a silent rewrite of the original record.

  2. Map received units to SKU and location. Keep goods in transit separate from sellable stock; quarantine disputed lines until reconciled.

  3. Recalculate cover for the missing units and show the source and age of the last update. An old carrier message is not a confirmed new ETA.

  4. Assign an owner and compare requesting confirmation, expediting the remainder and transferring available stock.

A worked example

Of 100 units, 60 arrived and 40 are delayed. At eight sales a day, dividing all 100 by eight would overstate available cover. This illustrative calculation must also account for reservations and potential returns.

What to verify

Arrival estimates depend on carrier-event quality. Without a recent ETA, say “arrival unconfirmed.” Evaluate financial impact separately from operational shortage risk.
